Migration is a human right!

“Left” parties <3 deportations

Stances

Based on the 2023 election programs:

  • GL-PvdA: Against child detention, but wants more return (read: deportations). Apparently, it is okay to detain and deport adults.
  • D66: Stricter with asylum seekers who have no chance of staying here. Agreements with countries of origin so that these people return as soon as possible.
  • Volt: Return must happen ‘in a humane way’. Volt wants to completely ban the detention of children in the return procedure.
  • SP: People who ‘abuse’ the rights of asylum seekers should be sent back to their country of origin as soon as possible. Agreements on return are made with the countries of origin.
  • Denk: Looks for solutions to allow people to return faster and in a ‘humane’ way.
  • PvdD: Does not speak of return, but does not explicitly condemn detention and deportations either.
  • CU: Proposes European agreements with countries from which many migrants come. In exchange for quickly taking back these migrants, there will be opportunities for temporary work permits
“Humane” return

With the exception of the PvdD, all parties on the left are in favor of more return. How this return should be arranged remains vague. Sure, promises about ‘humane return’ are nice, but how do you force someone to a place where they do not want to be? Forced relocation can never be made humane.

The deals that parties want to make with countries of origin are neo-colonial. A big bag of money, to ensure that countries cooperate in coercion and violence against their own citizens.

No party explicitly condemns deportations. Even the ‘left’ presents migrants as obstacles that should be removed. Real left means: freedom and equality for everyone, everywhere. Stop ‘[country name] first’ politics and stop all deportations!
