Changing the rules of the game

Don't Send Afghans Back

Would you want a one-way ticket to Afghanistan, the least peaceful country in the world?

This is the country were in the last 15 years, more than 111.000 people were killed and 116.000 injured. With the new increase of power of the Taliban, the country has again seen an uprise of violence and unsafety. Millions of people already fled the country to neigbouring Iran and Pakistan which now host 90% of the refugees from Afghanistan.

At the end of July, the European Commission asked all member states to put a stop to deportations to Afghanistan due to the increase of violence. Several countries accepted this - such as Norway, Sweden and Finland. However, the Netherlands together with Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Greece and Austria have not. They have stated in a letter to the European Commission that they want to at "individual cases" of Afghani migrants they want to deport. Parties in the cabinet, CU and D66, have asked the government to stop deportations to Afghanistan for now and wait for new policy to assess the safety in the country. A good start but not enough.

Our country wants to send people back to a country in war. This must stop.

Don't Send Afghans Back has created a virtual one-way ticket to Kabul, Afghanistan. We ask you to send this ticket to Ankie Broekers-Knol, the Dutch state secretary of Justice and Safety, other politicians or use it as a flyer to hand out during demonstrations.
